HAYWARD — A possibly armed person described as “unstable” trespassed onto a BART service yard here early Thursday and barricaded themself in a building, transit officials said.
The incident did not create any major service disruptions but did cause service on one of BART’s lines to be limited, BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said. He added that police did not believe there was any danger to the public.
It all happened about 6:40 a.m. Filippi said an “unstable individual” trespassed onto the Hayward train yard and was barricaded in a building. The person was believed to be armed with a knife, Filippi said.
Police safely evacuated the yard, and Filippi said BART dispatched trains into its service from other train yards.
BART limited service on its Green Line between Berryessa in San Jose and Daly City because of the situation. The Orange Line, which runs runs from Berryessa to Richmond was fully open. BART said riders coming from Berryessa would have to transfer to complete any trip to Daly City.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
