Waitrose has recalled a popular pasta sauce after salmonella was detected in a batch.
The UK Food Standards Agency announced today that the No1 Pesto alla Genovese had Salmonella detected in the product.
The pack size is 145g and the use by date on the affected batch is September 26, 2024.
If customers have bought the pesto, they’re urged to not eat it, but return it to their local Waitrose for a full refund.
The UK FSA wrote: ‘Salmonella has been found in the above product. Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.’
Earlier this week, an urgent warning was issued over peanut allergy concerns in products from Aldi, Spar and Dominoes.
More than 50 food items sold across the various retailers are affected, after a potential peanut contamination has been reported.
The Food Standards Agency has cautioned those with peanut allergies and warned to avoid the recalled items.
The contaminated items include garlic and herb dip from Aldi, Domino’s dip pots, sandwich fillers and potato salad from Booker, and various Spar sandwiches, wraps, and pasta salads.
In a statement, the Food Standards Agency said: ‘FGS Ingredients Ltd is recalling several products containing mustard powder because they may contain peanuts.
‘This means these products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.
‘These products are sold under several different brand names at several different retail stores.
‘If you have bought any of the above products and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat them.’
