Jars of pasta sauce are being urgently recalled over fears they contain shards of glass.

The Food Standards Agency has said Organico Realfoods is recalling jars of its Organic Alla Norma Sauce, which is made with aubergines, tomato and garlic.

It includes all products with the batch number 140227 and the best before date 14/02/2027.

Customers are advised to return these products for a refund.

The Food Standards Agency said: ‘If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it.’

Notices are displayed throughout stores where the product is sold.

In cases where supermarkets do not accept a refund, customers are advised to contact Organico directly.

What are product recalls and withdrawals?

When there is a problem with a food product it means it should not be sold.

It can either be withdrawn (taken off the shelves) or recalled (when customers are asked to return the product).

In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued which provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Recent examples of other food recalls

ASDA customers were warned two days ago not to eat its Hot & Spicy Chicken Breast Slices packaged with the use-by date of May 30, 2025 after it included the wrong use-by date.

The FSA advised anyone who had bought the chicken not to eat it.

The recall notice said: ‘If you have purchased ASDA Hot and Spicy chicken breast slices with a use-by date of May 30, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.’

‘You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.’

Last week, Morrisons urgently recalled its 400g packs of Morrisons The Best Thick Cumberland Sausages with a ‘use by’ date of May 1 over fears it ‘may contain small pieces of blue plastic’.

Shoppers were urged not to eat the product and return them for a full refund.
