US 6 in Clear Creek Canyon closed overnight for 6 days in June

US Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon will close overnight for six days in June, transportation officials announced Monday.

Construction crews began work earlier this week to repair lighting damage in Clear Creek Canyon’s Tunnel Six caused by a truck last year, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The tunnel and work zone are located along US 6 in Clear Creek Canyon between the Interstate 70 frontage road and Colorado Highway 119, the release stated.

Tunnel Six will be fully closed between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday, June 9 to Wednesday, June 12 and from Sunday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 19, transportation officials said.

During the full closure, the following detours will be in place:

Motorists headed to I-70 from westbound US 6 will take Colorado 119 northwest to Black Hawk, followed by Central City Parkway southeast.
Motorists traveling to lower Clear Creek Canyon from I-70 will take I-70 east to US 6 into Golden before rejoining westbound US 6.
