PALO ALTO – The defacement of a mural in Palo Alto is being investigated as a hate crime, police said.
The vandalism was reported around 9 a.m. Tuesday at a business in the 900 block of East Charleston Road, near San Antonio Road, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
Police said language painted on the mural was “directed towards people of Israeli descent.”
The damage to the mural was estimated at $2,000.
The vandalism happened at some point between Monday and Tuesday, according to police.
While no suspects have been identified, the investigation is continuing, police said.
