Firefighters battled a 100-acre vegetation fire that started Wednesday afternoon in Brentwood and grew quickly before crews were able to get the upper hand, officials said.
Crews were dispatched at 3:20 p.m. to the area of Empire Mine Road and Deer Valley Road, where the fire was initially reported to have burned 50 acres, according to Cal Fire.
Crews from Contra Costa Fire were on the scene of the same fire closer to the city’s border with Antioch.
Cal Fire said in a social-media post shortly after 4:30 p.m. that they had stopped forward progress from the flames.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and is under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
