Honoring veterans
The nonprofit Wreaths Across America will be holding an event honoring veterans on Dec. 13 at Los Gatos Memorial Park cemetery.
There are about 2,800 veterans buried at the Los Gatos cemetery. Wreaths Across America holds a ceremony during the holiday season at over 4,000 cemeteries throughout the U.S. to honor deceased veterans. They place live evergreen wreaths that are donated by the public at the veterans’ gravesites. In 2024, the nonprofit distributed more than 3 million wreaths on headstones across the U.S.
To donate $17 to purchase a wreath, visit www.waalosgatos.org. Another way to support the nonprofit is to attend the ceremony; about 300 people were in attendance at last year’s Wreaths Across America in Los Gatos. For more information, visit Los Gatos Wreaths on Facebook and Instagram.
Storm management
Los Gatos residents can directly call the town’s public works department about issues related to winter storms.
Storm drains from Los Gatos Creek flow directly into the San Francisco Bay. Parks and Public Works employees work year-round to keep the creeks clean and prevent streets from flooding by clearing leaves, litter and debris from these drains. They work with the West Valley Stormwater Authority, which used to be known as the West Valley Clean Water Authority, to protect homes, roads and local waterways, maintain aging infrastructure and meet clean water requirements.
Residents can call the Parks and Public Works Department to report any storm-related issues, including flooding, downed trees, gutters and storm drains. Call 408-399-5770 Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. To report an issue during evenings or weekends, call 408-354-8600.
