OAKLAND — A male died Thursday morning after he was shot, apparently in West Oakland, authorities said.
Authorities were trying to confirm the victim’s name, age and where he lived.
He was dropped off unconscious at a hospital just before 5 a.m. by people who then drove away in a car, authorities said.
After initial treatment at that hospital, he was transferred to another hospital, where he died.
Based on a gunshot detection system alert activation at 4:44 a.m. Thursday, police believe the shooting may have happened in the 2100 block of Myrtle Street in West Oakland, near Market Street and West Grand Avenue.
Numerous shell casings were found there and a residence was also hit by gunfire. No other injuries were reported.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.
The killing is the 52nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. At this time last year, police had investigated 71 homicides in the city.
