As we pause to honor the men and women who have served our country this Veterans Day, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) proudly promotes its Veterans Pass, offering discounted fares to U.S. military veterans through the end of the year.

With this program, veterans can ride VTA buses and light rail for just $1.00 per single ride, including unlimited transfers within two hours of activation. This discounted fare, offering more than 50% savings from the standard adult single ride, will be exclusively available through Token Transit. The pass aims to make public transportation more affordable and accessible for those who have served.

After purchasing the Veterans Pass on their Token Transit app, veterans will need to show valid proof of their veteran status if requested by a VTA Operator or Fare Inspector. Accepted identification includes:

  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
  • Veteran ID Card (VIC)
  • Department of Defense (DoD) Identification Card
  • State-issued driver’s license or ID with a Veteran’s designation

This pilot program underscores VTA’s dedication to supporting our veterans and exploring innovative ways to enhance the accessibility of public transportation for everyone in Santa Clara County.

In addition to promoting the Veterans Pass, VTA will proudly participate in the San Jose Veterans Day Parade to honor and celebrate local veterans.

Note: The Veterans Pass discounted fare is valid only during the program’s pilot period, and any unused tickets will expire at the end of 2025.

Future decisions regarding permanent fare changes will involve a comprehensive process, including public engagement, a Title VI Fare Equity analysis, and a Fare Revenue Impact Budget Assessment.
