Walnut Creek woman woke up in a NyQuil induced haze to find a man had broken in as she slept

WALNUT CREEK — A Concord man was sentenced to 90 days in jail after police named him as the person suspected of burglarizing a Walnut Creek home while the victim slept, court records show.

The victim, a Walnut Creek woman, told police she’d taken a “double dose” of NyQuil around 1 a.m. that morning, and woke up 17 hours later to find her apartment on Creekside Drive had been completely ransacked. Police said the damage and stolen property amounted to $3,912.

The suspect turned out to be a 33-year-old Concord resident, identified as the victim’s ex-boyfriend, court records show. The man had been calling the victim dozens of times per day and threatening her, authorities said.

On Sept. 11, the 33-year-old man pleaded no contest to violating his parole and was given a 90-day sentence, which he can reduce by half with good behavior, court records show. Police believed he used a window to break into the hom.
