Steph Curry’s thigh injury is not expected to be a long-term issue, according to a report Thursday morning.
Curry was limping throughout the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 104-100 loss to the Rockets on Wednesday night and eventually went to the locker room in the game’s final minute with Golden State trailing by five points.
The Warriors expect him to miss a week or so of time, according to a report from ESPN on Thursday morning. The team has not announced any timeline for his return to play.
Coach Steve Kerr said postgame that Curry, 37, would undergo an MRI on his right thigh.
“When I heard it was a quad, I was actually kind of relieved,” Kerr said after the loss. “Better than an ankle or a knee. So, hopefully he can recover quickly and be OK.”
Curry collided with Houston center Alperen Şengün on a screen with about five minutes left in the fourth quarter and hobbled for much of the rest of the game before leaving the floor early.
The two-time MVP had a tough shooting night against the Rockets as he was hounded by Amen Thompson, going 4-of-13 from the floor for 14 points. He leads the Warriors in scoring with 27.9 points per game.
The Warriors will have to make significant adjustments to account for his absence for any amount of time, as they showed when he missed three games earlier this season with a hamstring injury.
Golden State hosts the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday and will have to submit an injury report with Curry’s status to the league on Friday. The Warriors then face Oklahoma City on Tuesday to close out their homestand before playing in Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago.
“I think we’re going to have to be damn near perfect,” Warriors forward Jimmy Butler said of Curry missing time. “We aren’t going to have the ultimate bailout on our team.”
