OAKLAND — A water main break Friday morning outside Alta Bates Summit Medical Center on Pill Hill caused some service interruptions in the area, but had no impact on hospital operations, officials said.
The break to the 8-inch pipe installed in 1976 about eight feet underground on Hawthorne Avenue near Summit Street happened about 6 a.m.
The cause of the break remained under investigation Friday afternoon.
The break sent cascades of water gushing down Hawthorne Street until EBMUD employees were able to stop the flow and begin repairs. Part of Hawthorne Street was closed.
A hospital spokesperson said there “was no impact on patient care and no damage or destruction to the hospital campus structure.”
Full service was restored by 2 p.m.
