Weekday access to Waterton Canyon near Denver to close for two weeks

Waterton Canyon, located near Denver along the South Platte River, will be closed on weekdays from April 28 to May 9 for Denver Water‘s annual dust mitigation project, according to a Denver Water release.

The canyon, located outside of Louviers within Jefferson County and Douglas County will remain open on May 3 and May 4 for weekend recreation, according to the release.

Trail access is periodically shut down when maintenance projects pose a danger to the public, according to the release. The dust mitigation project should create optimal conditions for summertime activities.

“By taking the time to reduce the dust early in the season, we’ll be able to provide a better experience for hikers, bikers and runners throughout the rest of the summer,” said Brandon Ransom, Denver Water’s manager of recreation.

Anyone planning to hike or bike the Colorado Trail should seek alternative access points, according to the release.
