WALNUT CREEK — A 16-year-old girl died Saturday and four other people were hospitalized in a head-on crash, police said.
At least one of the injured was under 18, police said.
The crash happened about 4:40 p.m. on Ygnacio Valley Road, just east of Oak Grove Road, according to a statement from Walnut Creek police released on Tuesday. The road is a major by-pass commute road connecting central and eastern Contra Costa County.
Authorities have not identified the girl, citing the investigation.
The girl died at the scene.
Police said four other people involved in the crash were hospitalized, one of them a person under 18 years old who was flown to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Police did not have an update on any of those four, nor did they say how many people were in each car.
Police also cited the investigation in declining to answer how the wreck happened.
A citizen who was at the scene took a dog involved in the crash to a veterinary hospital, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and they encouraged anyone who may have information about how it happened to contact them at 925-943-5844.
