NASCAR returns to town this weekend for the third — and perhaps final — Chicago Street Race. Here’s what you need to know if you’re planning to go or just watching from home. Click here for the official race website.
• Gates to the grounds open at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. For the Xfinity Series Loop 110 race Saturday, practice starts at 9:30 and qualifying at 10:30. Qualifying will air on WGN 9, which also will carry the race at 3:30 p.m. Pre-race coverage begins at 2:30.
• Practice for the Cup Series Grant Park 165 starts at noon Saturday, with qualifying at 1. Both will air on truTV. The race is set for 1 p.m. Sunday on TNT and truTV. Pre-race coverage begins at noon on both channels. The Xfinity and Cup races also will air on WLS-AM (890).
• There’s more than racing available to racegoers. Several entertainers will perform throughout the weekend, highlighted by Zac Brown Band, which will take the stage one hour after the Xfinity race has ended. Several drivers will be available for Q&A sessions, including Alex Bowman, who won the Chicago Cup race last year (10:30 a.m. Saturday), and Shane van Gisbergen, who won in 2023 (10:05 a.m. Sunday).
Did you know?
The Chicago Cup race has yet to be run in full. In 2023, the Grant Park 220 was set for 100 laps but had to be shortened to 75 because of darkness after a rain delay. It ended up needing 78 because of overtime. In 2024, the Grant Park 165 was set for 75 laps but was shortened to 58 for the same reasons.
