The White Sox said Tuesday that they have hired Zach Bove as their pitching coach. He replaces Ethan Katz, whose contract wasn’t renewed.
Bove comes to the Sox from the Royals, for whom he served as an assistant pitching coach and director of pitching strategy for the last three seasons.
General manager Chris Getz said the Sox’ pitching staff ‘‘made strides’’ this past season but also said that ensuring the arms last over a full big-league season would be paramount going forward.
‘‘We’ve got some young pitchers that we anticipate joining our major-league club at some point next year,’’ Getz said. ‘‘So [it’s important] to establish a system that allows our young players that have been up in the big leagues to continue to develop but [also] helps the transition from the minor leagues to the major leagues.’’
The Royals’ pitching staff finished sixth in the majors in ERA at 3.73 in 2025. Rookie Noah Cameron thrived, going 9-7 with a 2.99 ERA in 138„ innings.
Getz said Bove’s work in helping the Royals control the running game was also a selling point.
‘‘It’s still very much a young staff that’s getting acclimated with the big leagues,’’ Getz said. ‘‘There’s been stretches of success with our current group. Now it’s about consistency and cleaning up some areas that help you win ballgames.’’
