CATHERINE Wiggins’ life hit the spotlight when she was married to Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins.
The famous cyclist – who has been declared bankrupt – is now split from his wife. Here’s Catherine’s story.

Who is Bradley Wiggins’ wife Catherine?
Bradley Wiggins got together with Catherine at the 2002 Commonwealth Games after he first met her as a junior in 1997.
She lives in Eccleston, Lancashire, which close to the Sky cycling HQ.
After a whirlwind romance, Bradley and Catherine married in 2004.
On her Instagram page she describes herself as a “mum, cyclist, gin enthusiast and lover of shiny pants.”

What was the Chris Froome spat?
Catherine apologised back in December 2017 after she labelled Chris Froome a “slithering reptile”.
Wiggins and Froome fell out during the 2012 Tour de France and their wives also had spats on social media.
But the 2017 fall out came after Froome recorded double the legal limit of an asthma drug during the Vuelta Espana.
Catherine then suggested a “conspiracy theory” on social media, before later deleting the post.

Commenting on news of Froome’s test results, she tweeted: “I am going to be sick. Nothing in the news.
“If I was given to conspiracy theory I’d allege they’d thrown my boy under the bus on purpose to cover for this slithering reptile.”
Froome was later cleared of the failed drug test.
How many children do the pair have?
Catherine and Bradley have two children, Ben and Isabella.
After the 2016 Olympic games in Rio, Bradley said: “I’m not doing Tokyo in 2020. My kids need a proper dad in their lives and my wife needs a proper husband.
“I wanted it to end like this, not some crappy little race in the rain in northern France. It’s nice that it’s finally over and it’s a relief more than anything.”
“I take my mind back to Sydney in 2000 and what that meant to me as a 20-year-old, wandering around and seeing Steve Redgrave win his fifth gold medal, thinking how incredible it was.”
Ben has followed in his father’s footsteps and is also a cyclist, hoping for Olympic glory in 2028.

When did Bradley and Catherine Wiggins split up?
In 2020, Bradley and Catherine announced they were divorcing.
the former athlete tweeted at the time: “It is with deep sadness my wife Cath and I have decided to separate.
“Our two children remain our priority and we ask for privacy at this time. Brad & Cath.”
Sir Bradley’s financial issues
2017
Spear’s Magazine cited Sir Bradley’s net worth as £13million.
It was a figure that had him only behind Andy Murray and Justin Rose in Team GB’s class of 2016.
There were lucrative brand deals with companies such as Fred Perry and Skoda, the latter of which was a seven-figure deal.
2022
Liquidators made a £1m claim against him – something he disputed.
A claim for £760,373 made a year prior had been escalated, with administrators, who were seeking money from to pay back an overdrawn director’s loan, “reviewing the company’s books and records”.
In September that year administrators’ documents revealed Sir Bradley entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) in order to stave off bankruptcy.
2024
The cyclist was declared bankrupt at Lancaster county court on June 3.
