Wings rookie Paige Bueckers in concussion protocol, out vs. Sky on Saturday

The Sky will not see Wings rookie point guard Paige Bueckers in the teams’ rematch Saturday because she is in the concussion protocol.

The Wings evaluated Bueckers after the Sky’s 97-92 win Thursday in Chicago and put her in the protocol. She will miss at least two games.

Bueckers, the top pick in the draft this year, 15 points, eight assists, three steals and three blocked shots Thursday. She and teammate Arike Ogunbowale pushed the Sky to the final minute before big plays by Courtney Vandersloot, Ariel Atkins and Angel Reese sealed the victory.

Center Kamila Cardoso led the Sky in scoring with a career-high 23 points.

Bueckers is averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 33.9 minutes per game coming off a championship season at the University of Connecticut.

The soonest she can return is June 6 against the Sparks.

The Sky’s next game against the Wings after Saturday will be July 9 at Wintrust Arena.
