Winter perch fishing will go at Navy Pier around the new marina

Winter perch fishing will be a go on the north wall of Navy Pier, as it has for decades, but there are tweaks with the opening of the Navy Pier Marina earlier this year.

For the past eight-plus years as NPM overcame bureaucratic roadblocks to finally open, project developer Randy Podolsky has steadfastly maintained that fishing would remain part of the scene, especially the winter perch fishing.

He considered opening the docks for off-season perch fishing, but that won’t happen this winter yet.

“Due to winter time work, fishing from Navy Pier will be intact,” he said Thursday morning. “There will be plenty of room.”

What that means fishing will continue from the north wall of Navy Pier. In the marina area, there is the 10 feet between the wall and the docks. To the east, past the end of NPM, will be the same as before. To the west, past the end of NPM, will be same as before, as will the west wall by the bus turnaround.
