At 8:16 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service released a winter weather advisory in effect until 10 p.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
The NWS Reno NV says to prepare for, “Snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches above 7000 feet. Below 7000 feet, snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Wave heights on Lake Tahoe up to 2 feet.”
“Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve,” the NWS said. “Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.”

Keep an eye out for snow plows and provide them with ample room to pass. Only overtake a plow when you have a clear view of the road ahead.
