Officers were called to an address on Altrincham Road at around 9:38am where they found the victim inside her home.

Police, ambulance, and fire and rescue services were all seen attending the scene.

After a brief investigation, cops detained a woman who is still in police custody.

A cordon has been put in place around the victim’s home while investigations continue.

Witnesses have reported seeing teams of forensics officers arriving to the home throughout the day.

Detective Inspector Adam Hitchen, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “The priority for our investigation is understanding the full circumstances which led to this tragic incident and getting justice for the victim.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, who are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

“We recognise that this investigation may cause concern within the local community, but I want to assure the public that this is an isolated incident, with a swift arrest made, and no wider threat.

He added that due to the shock death, an increased police presence will be in place in the Altrincham area for the time being.

Three fire trucks were also called to the home earlier today after receiving a report around a potential gas leak.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said their team completed several readings of the house and its neighbours but found no abnormalities.

They were at the scene for over an hour.

“Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact police on 101 quoting the log number 726 of 16/04/25,” the Detective Inspector said.

Information can also be reported online by going to the Greater Manchester Police website or by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
