Woman, 89, dies after being struck by bin lorry in Welsh town

An 89-year-old woman has died after a collision involving a bin lorry.
The recycling lorry collided with a pedestrian at around 9am on Brookes Street in Llandudno, north Wales.
Emergency services descended upon the scene including the air ambulance which landed at a nearby park.
The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, died at the scene. Her family has been told.
A man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is still in police custody.

Sergeant Duncan Logan from North Wales Police said: ‘The lady’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers, and our thoughts and sympathies are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.
‘The investigation is underway, and I can confirm that a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in police custody.
‘I would urge anybody who may have been in the vicinity of Brookes Street around the time of the collision and who may have information that could assist the investigation, to contact us as soon as possible.’

Pictures at the scene showed the wagon being loaded onto a transporter and removed from the scene several hours after the incident.
A council spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of a serious incident in Llandudno this morning involving a recycling vehicle.
‘The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being investigated by North Wales Police, and the authority is assisting with the enquiries.
‘It would be inappropriate to speculate on the circumstances before the police have had an opportunity to conclude their investigations.’
