Woman in her 40s dies at Isle of Wight Festival campsite after police rush to ‘sudden death’

A WOMAN in her 40s has died at Isle of Wight Festival campsite with police rushing to the sudden death.

The death is not being treated as suspicious by cops who have referred the passing to the coroner.

A festival spokesperson said: “The team at the Isle of Wight Festival are deeply saddened by the passing of a festivalgoer on Thursday morning.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family and friends.”

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.51am yesterday (20/6) to a report of a sudden death in the campsite of Isle of Wight Festival.

“A woman in her 40s has been confirmed as deceased and her family are aware.

“This is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The death came on the same day that a fire hit the festival, filling the sky with black smoke.

The fire has since been extinguished by on-site staff, confirmed cops and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

They confirmed that no local fire services were required to be in attendance.

Isle of Wight Police said in a statement that the blaze started when a golf buggy went up in flames.

A statement from the Isle of Wight Festival read: “A fire broke out in an area of the festival.

“The fire was contained and quickly extinguished by the fire services and no one was injured.”

Yesterday is the first day of the festival – with huge 90s legends like The Prodigy, Pet Shop Boys and Green Day slated to perform.

On Saturday, iconic Britpop band Suede will make their mark as Big Top headliners.

Closing the weekend, Jo Whiley brings her 90s Anthems to the Big Top on Sunday.

The renowned DJ and presenter is set to bring all the best tracks from the 90s for a euphoric Festival finale.

Recently-reformed Keane are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Hopes & Fears.

Also performing across the weekend are Simple MindsBeverley KnightZara LarssonJake Shears, Dagny and McFly.

Isle of Wight Festival has been contacted for comment by The Sun.
