Woman killed, another injured in Castle Pines stabbing

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide in Castle Pines after one woman was killed and another was injured in a stabbing.

The sheriff’s office has an 18-year-old man in custody, but no charges have been filed yet, said Deputy Daniel Carlin, spokesman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1300 Block of Sweet River Circle in Castle Pines at 11:36 p.m. Sunday, he said.

When deputies arrived, they discovered one woman was dead and the other had been “slashed or stabbed” in the apartment, Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said in a press conference.

An “edged weapon was used,” in what Carlin called “an isolated family matter.”

The injured woman, 20, is in critical condition at a hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery, he said.

The suspect — who Weekly did not name — was found naked in a field about a mile from the scene of the apartment complex, the sheriff said.

The woman who was killed will be identified by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.
