A woman whose brother was found beaten to death on a CTA train platform in the Loop over the weekend is demanding justice.
Robert Harper, 56, was killed in a fight with another man on a platform at the CTA Clark/Lake station Saturday night, Chicago police said.
As the two men fought on the platform about 10:30 p.m. at 124 W. Lake St., Harper suffered an injury to the head. Chicago firefighters found Harper unresponsive and took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Harper’s sister, Carmelia Harper, wasn’t sure what triggered the deadly fight but was adamant that whoever attacked him should be held accountable.
“People shouldn’t have to go through this,” Carmelia Harper said. “It’s awful, it’s devastating.”
Her brother, who had previously worked as a nursing assistant, was a great cook and she last saw him two years ago when he came to stay for Thanksgiving. He was unhoused and in and out of jail, though he was most recently released two weeks ago.
Despite his struggles, Robert Harper still cared deeply about his two sisters, Carmelia Harper said.
“He was always there when we needed him,” Harper said.
Police said charges were pending for a person of interest as of Monday.
