Woman shot after confronting Fort Collins would-be car thieves, police say

A woman was shot in Fort Collins early Monday morning after running out of her house to confront two would-be thieves breaking into her car, the police department said.

Fort Collins police officers responded to the shooting in the 700 block of Crown Ridge Lane around 1:20 a.m. Monday, the police department said in a news release.

The woman, who has not been identified by police, was awoken by another family member who saw two men breaking into the car parked in front of her house, police said. When she ran outside to confront the suspects, one of the men fired multiple shots and hit her in the leg.

The two men fled on foot before officers arrived and police have not identified any suspects, according to the release. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Police said the two men were wearing dark-colored clothing, hoodies and backpacks and are “considered armed and dangerous.”
