You might have to drive farther for a Frosty after three Denver Wendy’s close

Those with a hankering for a Wendy’s Frosty are going to have to drive a little farther in some parts of Denver. Three of the restaurants in the city have closed.

The signs at the recently shuttered sites have been removed and boards or brown paper are covering the windows at two of the restaurants.

In November, Wendy’s announced it would close 140 restaurants over the next few months. At the time, Kirk Tanner, the company’s CEO, said restaurants targeted to be shut were outdated and in underperforming areas.

The fast food chain also plans to build about 250 to 300 new restaurants, USA Today  reported. They will have a beefed-up design, including new pick-up windows, updated kitchen appliances and new interiors.

Wendy’s didn’t say how many locations in Colorado will be closed, but said plans are to open new restaurants in Greeley and Frederick in late 2025.

“By the end of 2024, we will have opened more than 500 new restaurants over the last two years and have confidence we will deliver elevated growth in 2025 and the years to come,” according to a statement from the company. “With more than 85 Wendy’s restaurants in the Denver area, customers can continue to enjoy our fresh, great-tasting food and fan favorites at their local Wendy’s restaurant.”

The three now-closed Wendy’s in Denver are at 2485 S. University Blvd; 515 S. Broadway St; and in the University Hills shopping center at 2770 S Colorado Blvd.

Wendy’s has about 6,000 locations nationwide and 125 in Colorado, according to its website.
