Young boy dies after being struck by car in Co Westmeath housing estate as gardai seal off scene & issue appeal

A YOUNG boy has died in Co Westmeath after being hit by a car.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident in Farranshock Estate in Mullingar shortly after 6:30pm last night.

The young boy was treated at the scene before being taken to Mullingar Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have preserved the scene of the incident and are probing the collision this morning.

Anyone who may have any information or could have witnessed the collision has been asked to come forward.

In a statement this morning, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Mullingar Garda Station at 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”

Two other people lost their lives in separate road crashes over the Easter weekend.

An 18-year-old man died in a crash involving a scrambler bike and a car in southwest Dublin on Sunday.

Jason Monks, who was from Jobstown in west Dublin, sadly passed away at the hospital.

And a motorcyclist was killed following a collision with a car in Co Limerick yesterday.
