A little boy is recovering in the hospital after suffering a serious head injury on a ride in a North Yorkshire pumpkin picking spot.
On Friday evening, the little boy fell from a ride at Spilman’s Farm in Thirsk and was airlifted to a nearby medical centre.
Paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were called to the site before taking the youngster to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
A Spilman’s spokesperson confirmed on Facebook: ‘The ride’s closed Saturday while everything’s being checked over. It was a really upsetting thing to happen, but thankfully, the little boy is fine and recovering.’
In another message, the farm wrote: ‘We’re so thankful the little boy is okay.

‘We spoke with his mum this morning and will continue to respect the family’s privacy while offering our support. The ride is currently closed while we carry out thorough checks.

‘It’s been a very distressing experience for everyone, and we’re just so relieved he’s recovering.’
In a later statement to Teesside Live, the farm added: ‘The child involved was released from hospital Friday night. As a family farming business now in the third generation, we always take our responsibility for the Health and Safety of all of our guests and staff very seriously.
‘The ride involved is owned and operated by an external operator and has not/will not be used again.’
The farm is currently busy with families enjoying autumnal pumpkin picking activities popular with Teessiders and people from across the North East.
This year, the farm advertised over 175,000 pumpkins to be picked, along with spooky stage shows, a Halloween fancy dress disco, and a fireworks display on October 25 and 26.
In the summer, thousands flock to the farm, established in 1941, to collect strawberries. It also houses a farm shop, cafe and play barn.
Earlier this year, a teenage boy was injured after being thrown out of his seat while riding a 360-degree swing.
The boy, 13, went on the ride at the Jawa Timur Park 1 in Batla, Indonesia, with three friends when the safety harness unbuckled, leaving him clinging to his chair.
The ride swung as it completed a 360° turn and slowed down at the top, with the teen dangling some two metres off the ground.
Onlookers and ride-goers then screamed as they watched the teenager fall, footage showed.
