SACRAMENTO — The July filming of a YouTube video about a local neighborhood has led to federal prosecutors charging one alleged participant with a felony, court records show.
Ky Stratton, 26, was charged earlier this month with being a felon in possession of a firearm, following his arrest on the night of July 4 in Sacramento, court records show. The criminal complaint says police pulled Stratton over and found a pistol in his car after receiving a complaint that there were more than 100 people near Northfield Drive and Northview Drive, some openly carrying firearms.
The large gathering turned out to be for a video entitled “The Apes & Gators took us to the MOST DANGEROUS hood in Sacramento,” by Star Quality Entertainment, a popular YouTube channel with more than 100,000 subscribers. In the 44-minute video various participants, including a man identified by prosecutors as Stratton, are seen flashing weapons and speaking in general terms about the surrounding area as fireworks go off in the background.
The “most dangerous” label may be well-earned. The criminal complaint alleges that since 2024, the neighborhood “has experienced approximately 58 shootings, 155 robberies, 311 aggravated assaults, and 11 homicides.”
Prosecutors say when police pulled Stratton over, he was dressed in the same outfit and in possession of the same gun seen in the video. Officers also found roughly 500 opiate-based painkiller pills and $7,894 in cash, according to the complaint.
Stratton was released from jail at his first court appearance after his father posted a $150,000 property bond, records show. He is next due in court on Oct. 2.
