Carlos Baleba has been told to pick Manchester United over Manchester City because of the Red Devils’ significant ‘history’ and ‘heritage’.

Both Manchester clubs are interested in a deal to sign the Brighton midfielder, with the Seagulls reportedly slapping a £104m price tag on the player.

United are keen to recruit a new No.6 – and have made Baleba one of their main targets – but Pep Guardiola is believed to be a long-term admirer.

Baleba, 21, was named Brighton’s Young Player of the Season last term after a number of impressive performances in the Premier League.

Quizzed why Baleba should move to Old Trafford instead of the Etihad, former United defender Wes Brown told Metro via Joe Fortune Casino: ‘Man United have a big heritage and a big history.

‘You can see with the signings we’ve made that we’re tyring to get back to winning ways.

‘He’s done really well. He’s a player who has probably been under the radar a little bit.

‘He’s quick, sharp, he has a brilliant left foot, he gets in your face and he can tackle.

‘I think he’s the sort of player the manager is looking for in midfield. He’s be very exciting.

‘He’d put a stamp on the midfield along with Bruno Fernandes. He’d be a really positive buy.’

United do not currently have the funds to sign Baleba, who they value at around £70m despite Brighton’s £104m price tag.

But the potential sales of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho could see United make an approach before the current window closes.

Baleba, though, is thought to be happy to stay with Brighton for the 2025-25 season, with a move considered more likely next summer.

‘Adam Wharton would be a good addition’

Should United fail in their mission to sign Baeba, Brown feels that Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton would be a decent alternative option.

‘He’s a very nice player – and he’s English as well,’ Brown added. ‘He’s got better and better each season. He’s good on the ball.

‘He’s a little different to Baleba but when you watch him play he’s got balance and he doesn’t panic. I think either of them would be good additions.’
