$180 Million Shooter Calls Out Nuggets After Being Traded

In his first act as a member of the Brooklyn Nets, Michael Porter Jr. threw some shade at his former team, the Denver Nuggets.

In a video posted on his YouTube page, Porter showed immediate excitement after learning the Nets have multiple courts in their practice facility, compared to just the one in Denver.

I’m just glad y’all got two courts, man,Porter said.Over there, we just had one.”

The Nuggets drafted Porter with the 14th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft. After sitting out his first year with injury, he averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists on 40.6% shooting from three in his six seasons with the team. Porter was a key piece in Denver’s run to the NBA title in 2023, but was traded to Brooklyn over the summer.

Porter Traded For Cam Johnson

First announced by Shams Charania, Denver traded Porter and a 2032 first-round pick to the Nets for Cam Johnson. Porter had the best statistical year of his career in the regular season, but while fighting through a shoulder injury to play in the postseason, his minutes saw a steep decline. Along with a drop in numbers in the playoffs, Porter’s defense was a factor in Denver sending him East.

The Nuggets added Johnson on a discount compared to Porter’s contract, gaining a better defender with solid shooting ability.

Porter’s comment on the practice court was likely a light-hearted joke, as a few weeks ago, he posted a separate YouTube video thanking the Nuggets after being traded.

“I want to start off by expressing my gratitude to the Nuggets organization,Porter said. They took a chance on me that day, they drafted me with the 14th pick, and my life was forever changed.”

He also thanked Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, the two players who were constant on the team throughout Porter’s time in Denver.

“The two guys that were with me along the whole journey, Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic,Porter added.I appreciate you guys accepting me coming into the team. You guys already had your two-man game going on, and when I came there, you guys immediately made me feel comfortable with my game. You guys put me in a position to succeed.”

Porter ranks second in Nuggets history in all-time three-pointers made, trailing only Murray.

Nuggets Have Been Busy

Along with trading Porter for Johnson, the Nuggets have been very active over the 2025 offseason. They added Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in free agency, while also acquiring Jonas Valanciunas in a trade that sent Dario Saric to the Sacramento Kings.

The Valanciunas situation was a bit touch-and-go after he reportedly received offers from overseas teams to play in Europe next season, but both he and the Nuggets expect him to join the team for training camp in September.

Denver is also under new leadership in the coaching staff and front office, as ownership decided to fire head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth with just three games to go in the regular season. In their places, they added David Adelman as coach, along with Ben Tenzer and Jonathan Wallace as Executive Vice Presidents.

“We have the utmost confidence in both Ben and Jon,Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke said. They have been integral parts of our team already, so we know their dedication and hard work first-hand and we’re looking forward to their continued growth and the vision they have for this team.”

Denver finished last year with a 50-32 regular season record, while losing to the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of their second-round playoff matchup.

Porter heads to Brooklyn, a team that has won just one playoff series in the past decade, and set NBA history by making a record five selections in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
