There’s a big question mark surrounding the Buffalo Bills‘ offense following back-to-back losses. The “everybody eats” style of play has grown stale, and not having a true No. 1 wide receiver on the roster has become a glaring issue.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen looks pedestrian without a reliable deep threat weapon, and expecting the league MVP to go full Superman in order to bag a win isn’t a sound long-term game plan. The offense’s 14 points scored during Buffalo’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football is the team’s lowest point total since 2023.
The Bills have multiple areas of concern due to injury, particularly on defense. However, trading for an explosive wide receiver before the deadline could be the perfect boost this struggling offense needs in a Super Bowl or bust type of season.
While assessing the available targets, one name keeps popping up: New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave.

Olave, the No. 11 overall pick from the 2022 NFL draft, recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons during his rookie and sophomore seasons. He signed a fully guaranteed four-year $19.27 million rookie contract, but with his fifth-year option already picked up, Olave’s contract runs through 2027.
Saints WR Chris Olave Makes Too Much Sense For The Bills
Multiple analysts are urging Bills general manager Brandon Beane to pick up the phone and make an offer for Olave.
The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia wrote, “There are a handful of surefire sellers this season already, and the Saints are one of them. And if the Bills want to put a serious asset in a trade to acquire an impactful, young receiver, Chris Olave should be at or near the top of their list if he’s available.”
Not only is he only 25 years old, but the $15.5 million Olave’s due next year is a manageable addition. His skill set also matches what the Bills offense is lacking.

Buscaglia added, “With the inconsistency and injuries to Joshua Palmer and Curtis Samuel, finding an impact Z receiver who can separate, win the ball in the air, run crisp routes and uncover in short, intermediate and deep parts of the field should be the top priority. That pretty much sums up Olave’s skill set, who earns targets at an immensely high rate.”
While two concussions kept Olave to just eight games in 2024, The Sporting News named the 6-foot receiver as a great fit in Buffalo, as did USA Today’s Nick Brinkerhoff, who sees trading the Ohio State alum as beneficial for both Buffalo and New Orleans.
The Saints could “opt to dive into the trade market and recoup some draft capital for Olave,” Brinkerhoff wrote. “With 1,000-yard seasons in two of his first three years, this is the type of receiver the Bills could use. Olave may not be the big body target, but he is certainly consistent and knows how to get open.”
What Would The Bills Need To Give Up To Land Chris Olave In Buffalo?

Due to Olave’s injury history, Buffalo could obtain Olave without giving up a first-round pick. Thus far this season, Olave’s recorded 39 receptions for 342 yards and one touchdown. And that’s with Spencer Rattler as his QB1.
AtoZ Sports’ Adam Zientek suggested the Bills could land Olave in exchange for Curtis Samuel, a 2026 second-round, and a 2026 fifth-round pick.
“Beane has shown in the past he’s willing to take a swing on some high-profile players and Olave is just that,” Zientek wrote. “Beane pushes all the chips on the table into the center, hoping to land a difference-maker on the offense as Buffalo continues to work on their identity on offense. After several 1,000-yard receiving seasons, Olave joining Buffalo would do just that.”
