2 Ex-Chiefs Super Bowl Starters Now Available for KC on Trade Block: Insider

The Kansas City Chiefs love their veteran reunions, and two perfect NFL trade deadline reunion opportunities have just emerged on November 3, among the latest trade deadline news and rumors.

Fresh off the Chiefs’ offensive line struggles versus the Buffalo Bills, KC could look to bring back one of two versatile staff favorites, and each has started big postseason outings for the franchise in the past.

“Sources: The [Washington] Commanders have been open to trading several players, including OL Andrew Wylie and OL Nick Allegretti, both of whom bring extensive starting and playoff experience,” FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on November 3.

Continuing: “Wylie has valuable position flexibility, having played both guard spots and right tackle during his career.”

Of course, Chiefs fans already know what both Wylie and Allegretti bring to the table, as both have helped Kansas City win Super Bowls, plural.

Chiefs Could Bolster OL Depth With NFL Trade Deadline Move for Andrew Wylie or Nick Allegretti

Chiefs and NFL trade deadline news and rumors includes Nick Allegretti's availability.

The Chiefs’ offensive line is getting a lot of criticism after Week 9, but it actually hasn’t been a major problem when the starting five have been healthy and available.

Kansas City got good news on the status of rookie left tackle Josh Simmons on November 3, and right guard Trey Smith will have time to rest his back injury over the bye week, but the Chiefs need to know that things won’t immediately break down when an injury occurs.

That means strengthening the depth, and what better way to do that than a trade for Wylie or Allegretti — or both.

Wylie and Allegretti both made a name for themselves in KC, transitioning from key rotational depth to capable starters. The pair eventually skipped town in free agency, as Washington was willing to offer them more guaranteed money and a full-time starting job in the case of Allegretti.

Now, a reunion could be mutually beneficial.

Wylie & Allegretti Have Track Records Chiefs Can Rely on After Trade Deadline News

Wylie was already a starter with the Chiefs, although his position changed a few times over his 59-start tenure in Kansas City. The reliable blocker started games at right guard, left guard, and right tackle.

At right tackle, he started all 20 games in 2022 (including the playoffs) and helped the Chiefs win a Super Bowl over the Philadelphia Eagles. This was Wylie’s second Super Bowl ring in KC, but it was only his first as a healthy starter. He left after the 2022 championship.

Wylie would be a clear upgrade on backup right tackle Wanya Morris, should anything happen to Jawaan Taylor. Not to mention, he could also play guard and replace Mike Caliendo as the next man up off the bench.

Allegretti is more of a carbon copy of Caliendo, but the original — and more battle-tested — version. He can spell center or guard when needed without missing a beat.

Allegretti was a member of the Chiefs for all three Super Bowl titles under head coach Andy Reid. He started the 2020-21 Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2023-24 championship win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The integral backup appeared in 90 total games for Kansas City, starting 18. He was also beloved by Chiefs teammates within the locker room and well-liked by fans, too, gutting out a torn UCL during the 2023-24 Super Bowl victory.
