Opening Week in the NFL is here, and every fanbase is filled with hope and excitement for the start of a new year. Fans will pack their home teams’ stadiums in anticipation of what wonders the year could bring. However, when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks in their season opener, that might not be the case.
According to San Francisco 49ers reporter Dave Lombardi, it may be a 49ers takeover of Lumen Field.
“For the first time ever, 49ers fans are expected to be the majority in…. Seattle,” Lombardi said. “Vivid Seats projects 53% of the crowd on Sunday will be 49ers fans.”
This will not be the first time that 49ers fans have made their presence known at a Seahawks game.
Seattle Sports Store Sold 49ers Jerseys
49ers fans are one of the most well-traveled fan bases in the NFL, and the Seahawks are not the first NFC West team to fall victim to a stadium takeover.
Last season, against the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers had an even larger presence at SoFi Stadium. In September 2024, ESPN’s Nick Wagoner highlighted the 49ers’ excellent travel arrangements.
“49ers fans expected to occupy 62% of SoFi Stadium on Sunday, per Vivid Seats’ Fan Forecast, Wagoner said. It’s also the hottest ticket of the week on their ticket market with an average price of $348/ticket.”
Last season, the 49ers fans invading Lumen Field caused a Seattle sports apparel business across the street from the stadium to make a business decision. Gabe Fernandez of SF Gate wrote an article in October 2024 about the awkward situation.
“The Pro Image Sports in downtown Seattle, less than a five-minute walk from Lumen Field, had five Niners jerseys prominently displayed in the store’s window: Patrick Willis, Deion Sanders, Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey and Talanoa Hufanga,” Fernandez wrote.
The Seahawks organization is unhappy with their stadium being taken over by opposing fans, and they have attempted to take steps to address the issue.
Seahawks Made Season Ticket Changes
The Seahawks have recognized that they need to regain their home-field advantage. According to Field Gulls on Twitter, the Seahawks were the first team in NFL history to finish the season with a winning record despite losing six games at home.
Now, the Seahawks franchise this offseason has attempted to implement several solutions to ensure the 12s maintain their once-overwhelming home-field advantage.
According to Tyler Alsin of Field Gulls, the Seahawks’ ticketing website summarizes a few initiatives the team is trying to uphold in 2025.
“They list transfer and donate as two of the first options they are willing to assist with, both options keeping tickets among Seattle fans,” Alsin said.
The team is also cracking down on season ticket holders reselling their tickets.
“Lastly, a new disclaimer that season ticket holders who primarily resell their tickets will have to give an account at the end of the year, and decisions may be made by the administration as to whether they will be allowed to retain status as a season ticket holder,” Alsin said.
So far, the new measures have not been effective, but the Seahawks fans at Lumen Field will attempt to drown out the noise from Niners fans trying to infringe on their home turf.
