49ers Reveal Massive Fred Warner Injury Update

The San Francisco 49ers have been ravaged by injuries, especially on the defensive side of the football. Nick Bosa and Fred Warner suffered early on in the 2025 NFL season. However, the Niners might be holding out hope that Warner isn’t done for the season.

Warner dislocated and fractured his right ankle in Week 6, an injury that should keep him out for the rest of the season.

Nonetheless, there has been some outside chatter about a potential late-season surprise if the 49ers make a long postseason run, though the organization has made it clear that the chances remain low.

Still, even with the hope that Warner returns, general manager John Lynch shared a positive update on December 11 during an appearance on KNBR, noting encouraging progress in the All-Pro linebacker’s rehab. Even so, he made sure to keep expectations in check when it comes to any early return.

“Fred’s crushing it,” Lynch said (h/t 49ers Web Zone). “He’s going to attack everything in his life with the same mentality, which is not waste a minute, focus on what he can control, and that’s working his tail off. I’ve told you all the lengths that Fred goes [through] to be the best he can possibly be. He’s not approaching this any different.”

John Lynch Gives More Exciting Updates on Fred Warner

Despite trying to temper expectations that Warner could return if the 49ers reach the NFC title game or the Super Bowl, Lynch did spotlight the work ethic the Niners’ linebacker is showing in this rehab process. Lynch pointed to a recent video from Warner’s rehab sessions, noting the strides he’s already making in the pool.

“Someone showed it to me, where he’s swimming, so he’s kind of taken on that,” Lynch added. “And I think that’s something Fred always tries to implement—something different. I think, in his approach to this injury, he’s approached it the very same way, and he’s doing really well.

Like I said before, it’s a stretch to foresee him coming back [for the playoffs], but I don’t put anything past Fred Warner. Our biggest issue is just going to be making sure—he’ll want to, but it’s just like, is it a wise decision for him, for our organization, all those things?

“We’ll let that transpire, but what Fred will do is not waste a day in doing everything he can to rehab that injury.”

49ers Are Ready to Face Cam Ward in Week 15

The 49ers are coming off their bye week and will face the 2-11 Tennessee Titans as they look for a win to keep themselves in the race for the NFC West division title. San Francisco will be facing a young quarterback in Cam Ward and looks to take advantage of his challenging first season in the NFL.

Ward’s production has lagged behind preseason expectations. He has thrown for 2,468 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 59 percent of his passes. Nonetheless, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan notes that the Titans’ star’s natural ability is the reason he still views the rookie as dangerous.

“You can see why he was the first pick, Shanahan said. “He throws like a top quarterback. He can make every throw, and when his first read is there, he hits it. The talent is obvious.”
