T
he San Francisco 49ers are in the final stretch of the regular season. Sitting at 9-4 and coming off of a Week 14 bye week, the 49ers will look to win their remaining regular season games and climb up the NFC standings in order to secure a better playoff spot. Despite dealing with a rash of injuries, the 49ers have been doing very well all things considered. But a playoff spot is not the only thing that the team is looking to secure over these next four weeks.
Along with numerous other milestones that can be reached by the end of the season, 49ers’ wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is looking to reach a milestone of his own. Signing an incentive-laden one year deal with the team in September, Bourne needs 500 receiving yards this season in order to earn an extra $500,000 contract bonus. So far, he has 482 and needs to rack up 18 more over these next few weeks in order to earn that money.
Can Bourne Do It?
When Bourne signed with the 49ers, he signed at a time where injuries were plaguing the wide receiver room. And once he joined, he became a pivotal part of the offense, putting two straight games of 100 or more yards between weeks five and six. In those two games, Bourne combined for 15 catches for 282 yards and despite a dip in production over the past few weeks, he was still able to get his receiving yards total well over 400 in early November. But since Ricky Pearsall has returned, Bourne has taken a backseat role and in the past four games, he has only caught one pass.
But with Brandon Aiyuk’s return still up in the air and Bourne proving that he can still contribute at a high level, it would not be a surprise to see the 49ers deploy him a bit more these next few weeks and do what they can to get him that $500,000 bonus. Next up for the 49ers is a matchup against the Tennessee Titans, a team with only two wins all year. Maybe that will be the game where he goes off.
Bourne’s Career Thus Far
Signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent back in 2017, Bourne remained with the team throughout the 2020 season before signing a three-year deal with the New England Patriots. Putting together his best season as a pro in his first season with the Patriots in 2021, Bourne struggled in subsequent seasons and was ultimately released during final roster cuts ahead of the 2025 regular season.
Bourne then rejoined the 49ers in order to revive his career and has proven all season long that he is still a very serviceable option in the NFL.
