All signs point to the New York Yankees being active at the MLB trade deadline, at least according to the latest rumors. One player has seemingly been linked to the Yankees more than any other, creating plenty of fodder for proposed trade pitches.
Fresh off his second All-Star appearance, Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suarez is well aware of the ongoing Yankees rumors. The question is whether New York will be able to land Suarez before the July 31, 2025, trade deadline.
“’It feels like the Yankees will do something big,’” a rival MLB exec told New York Post’s Jon Heyman for a July 13, column titled, “Best one-stop shopping scenarios for contenders at MLB trade deadline.” “… The issue, of course, is that the D’Backs still want to buy, not sell, as GM Mike Hazen told us on ‘The Show.’ Suárez should be the Yankees’ top 3B target as a righty bat with big power (31 homers) and reasonable 2026 salary ($15M).”
Here’s what you need to know about the MLB trade rumors regarding the Yankees potentially landing Suarez.
Eugenio Suarez on Yankees Trade Rumors: ‘If I Go There I Will Do My Best to Try & Help Them Win the World Series’
Suarez is not publicly pushing for a trade, but the third baseman does not seem opposed to the idea of landing with the Yankees. The All-Star emphasized that he would try to help the Yankees win a World Series if a deal did happen.
“I’m happy where I am, but I understand the game and the business,” Suarez explained during the MLB All-Star break, per SNY.TV. “Whatever happens, if I stay it’s fine but if I go its okay too, I will do my best wherever I am — right now I’m happy where I am.
“The Yankees are the Yankees. It’s a team that wants to win. They had success last year but are still hungry, if I go there I will do my best to try and help them win the World Series.”
Yankees GM Brian Cashman on Trade Rumors: ‘We’re Going to Be Fully Engaged & See Where It Takes Us’
ESPN’s Jorge Castillo reported that the Yankees are “definitely” looking to land a new starting pitcher at the trade deadline. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been candid about the team’s trade deadline plans. New York has been linked to Suarez and other hitters, but it appears the Yankees are also aiming to bolster the team’s pitching.
“Whether it’s bullpen guys or starting pitchers, it’s just all of it,” Cashman said on July 9, per Castillo. “That’s the area. We have people that are capable, but I think it also needs to get some help.
“And if I can do so, great. But again, there’s no guarantees. We’re going to be fully engaged and see where it takes us. Hopefully, we can run into some opportunities that can benefit us.”
Suarez is in the final season of a seven-year, $66 million contract. If the Diamondbacks are pessimistic about the chances of re-signing Suarez, we could see a deal sooner rather than later.
