Aaron Glenn Makes Brady Cook Announcement Before Bills Rematch

The New York Jets are sticking with their rookie quarterback.

Head coach Aaron Glenn announced on Wednesday, December 31, that undrafted free agent Brady Cook will remain the QB1 for the Week 18 Buffalo Bills game.

“Brady will be our quarterback,” Coach Glenn responded when asked if he gave any consideration to rolling with Hendon Hooker.

Last week, veteran Tyrod Taylor missed the Week 17 game against the New England Patriots due to a “personal” issue. He also had been dealing with knee and groin injuries. On Monday, December 29, Taylor was still dealing with this undisclosed issue.

However, Coach Glenn revealed on Wednesday, December 31, “Tyrod had a personal deal, and he is back with the team right now.”

Coach Glenn Explains His Decision to Stick With Cook

“Because I want to give him another chance to go out there and play,” Coach Glenn responded when asked why he is sticking with Cook.

A media member followed up by asking, Does he give you the best chance to win?

“He gives us the best chance to win,” Coach Glenn said.

Cook, 24, has appeared in four games and has made three starts this season. He is 0-3 in those starts. The former Missouri product will get another crack at his first win on the road in Buffalo for the regular-season finale.

In those appearances, Cook has completed 58.8% of his passes, has thrown for 679 passing yards, and has a one passing touchdown to seven interception ratio. He has been sacked 18 times and has lost 118 yards due to those sacks.

Cook also has 10 carries for 42 rushing yards. He has averaged 4.2 yards per carry and has fumbled three times.

Can Cook Be the QB2 for the Jets in 2026?

A media member asked Coach Glenn if he has seen enough from Cook to determine if he is backup quarterback worthy in 2026.

“I would like to look at that at the end of the season. I mean, he still has another game left. So we will see what happens with this game and see how he operates,” Glenn explained.

Curious Betting Line for the Last Game of the Season

The Jets’ final game of the season comes on the road against the Bills.

In the first matchup between these two squads, Buffalo destroyed the Jets by the tune of 30-10 back in Week 2. That game was in the lovely confines of MetLife Stadium.

The opening line for this rematch had the Bills as a 9.5-point favorite over the Jets, per Vegas Insider. Curiously, the line has shrunk since then, with Buffalo only being a seven-point favorite currently.

Why would that be the case? Who in their right mind would be betting money on the Jets? Especially considering they have lost four straight games by at least 20+ points.

The Jets have lost four in a row and 9 of the last 11 to Buffalo. So there isn’t some secret historical advantage that the Jets hold in this rivalry.

The only logical reason is that people believe Buffalo could rest starters in this game. Thus increasing the Jets’ chances of winning a potentially meaningless game.
