AEW Gets Good News Over Former Champion’s Injury Recovery

Orange Cassidy has been sidelined since March22025. The last time he was seen in an AEW ring was during a four-way match against Mike Bailey, Ricochet, and Mark Davis.

According to a report from BodySlam.net, which has since been corroborated by Fightful Select, Cassidy is nearing a return to the ring and has been medically cleared.

“BodySlam.net reported this morning that he is cleared, which lined up with much of what Fightful Select has heard when asking about injury updates,” Fightful Select reported. “Fightful Select has learned that Orange Cassidy is on the mend, and we were told he’ll be back “sooner than later,” when we asked for an update. He’s not expected to be out through the end of the year like many other injuries, unless there’s a big setback.”

Cassidy’s impending return will be some welcome news for Tony Khan and the AEW roster. The company is expected to be without Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland for the foreseeable future. Both talents were dealing with injuries heading into Forbidden Door.

In recent years, Cassidy has held the AEW International championship on two occasions. His first reign lasted for 326 days, spanning October 2022 to September 2023. His second tenure as champion ran from March 2024 to July 2024.

Cassidy Likely To Resume Feud Vs. The Death Riders

Before being sidelined with injury, Cassidy and The Clongomoration were feuding with The Death Riders. That storyline has continued in Cassidy’s absence, although his faction has seldom featured since his injury.

With Ospreay on the shelf, Cassidy could quickly plug the void in facing off against Jon Moxley and his crew. There have already been some stellar matches between the pair. Khan would likely remain confident in their ability to work together and produce high-level shows.

Outside of that, we could see Trent Beretta and Cassidy resume their issues. Beretta is currently with the Don Callis family. Therefore, countless angles can emerge from that storyline.

AEW Might Not Get The Same Ospreay Back

While Cassidy is likely preparing for a return to AEW programming, Ospreay will be preparing to fix the two herniated discs in his back. Ospreay recently admitted that he fears he may not come back to AEW as the same wrestler. His comments came during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s “The Takedown.”

“I know what lies ahead and I know what’s going to be coming after this,” Ospreay said. “I just don’t know what that looks like. People that have said after this, like, there’s things that you’re gonna have to say no to and there’s things that you’re gonna have to turn tone down on with my style… If there’s even the smallest chance that I’m not going to be the exact same afterwards, I’m just going to go in there (at Forbidden Door) and just be Will Ospreay for one last night.”

AEW has a deep and talented roster. Nevertheless, they will undoubtedly be banking on Ospreay being capable of reaching his current world-class level in the future. He’s among the most important members of the AEW roster. Still, it’s worth remembering that Cassidy is also a key component to AEW’s programming. His return is coming at the perfect time.
