AEW’s Will Ospreay Receives Messages From WWE Talents

Will Ospreay is expected to miss significant time for AEW. The high-flying star is dealing with two herniated discs in his back. He’s expected to undergo surgery now that Forbidden Door is over.

Ospreay, 32, has emerged as one of AEW’s top talents since joining the company in 2023. Losing him for a prolonged period of time will be a tough blow. However, getting the surgery now is likely the best course of action.

During a recent interview with Metro, Ospreay revealed that he’s been receiving well-wishing messages from wrestlers outside the AEW roster. In fact, even talent from WWE have been reaching out, offering support and advice if he needs it.

‘I’ve got people in [WWE] that I’ve never met before in my entire life, that have reached out because of this neck injury, and they have gone, “Hey, if you need a doctor, or if there’s any questions that need to be answered,”‘ Ospreay said. “‘Every single one of them are super lovely. And I wish them all the best. I really do.’”

Ospreay reportedly had an offer on the table from WWE before he chose to sign with AEW. However, his decision doesn’t appear to have created any issues with the WWE locker room.

Ospreay is “Terrified” to Have the Surgery

In an August 23 interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Ospreay admitted that he’s “terrified” of undergoing surgery to repair his two herniated discs.

“I’m anxious. I’m scared. Generally, I’m terrified,” Ospreay said. “Not about the match, but just about afterwards. I don’t know what it looks like afterwards, because for the first time in my life, I have been disqualified from doing the thing that I love doing.”

The “Aerial Assassin” admitted that this will be his first time having a surgical procedure.

“I’ve never had anybody cut into me; I’ve never had surgery,” Ospreay said. “I’ve never broken a bone, other than my nose, which everyone can tell, because it looks like I’ve been hit by a frying pan.”

Unfortunately for Ospreay, surgery appears to be the only option if he wants to repair his current injury.

Ospreay Might Not Come Back as The Same Wrestler

When speaking with Sports Illustrated’s “The Takedown,” Ospreay admitted that he may not come back to AEW as the same wrestler. His surgery may mean he needs to tweak his style and potentially take less risks in the ring.

“I know what lies ahead and I know what’s going to be coming after this,” Ospreay said. “I just don’t know what that looks like. People that have said after this, like, there’s things that you’re gonna have to say no to and there’s things that you’re gonna have to turn tone down on with my style… If there’s even the smallest chance that I’m not going to be the exact same afterwards, I’m just going to go in there (at Forbidden Door) and just be Will Ospreay for one last night.”

Credit to Ospreay, he certainly did put on a performance during Forbidden Door. His moonsault off the top of the cage a particular highlight.

Of course, with his surgery looming, AEW has moved to write him off TV for the foreseeable future. He was attacked by “The Death Riders” after the “Lights Out Cage Match” in brutal fashion.

We don’t know when we will see Ospreay again, but when we do, Jon Moxley and the rest of his faction are going to have a lot to answer for.

Hopefully, Ospreay will still be one of the best wrestlers in the world when that storyline eventually begins to pick up steam.
