Manchester United have significantly lowered their £70 million asking price for Chelsea to sign Alejandro Garnacho this summer, according to reports.

Ruben Amorim has made it clear to Garnacho that he has no future at Old Trafford after he was left out of the squad for United’s final Premier League game last season and benched for the Europa League final against Spurs in May.

Garnacho took aim at Amorim after he was dropped for the Europa League final defeat to Spurs in Bilbao and indicated that his future is in doubt.

The Argentina international had attracted interest from both Chelsea and Napoli in the January transfer window but were unwilling to meet United’s £70m asking price.

According to ESPN, United are now willing to accept a £40m fee for Garnacho this summer with Chelsea, Aston Villa and the Saudi Pro League all interested.

The report adds that Garnacho’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and join a club who will be playing in the Champions League next season, which makes Chelsea the frontrunners for his signature if they followed up their interest.

Garnacho did not travel to Sweden for United’s goalless draw against Leeds United for their first pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The 21-year-old will also be left out of the squad that will travel to the United States for their three-game pre-season tour this week.

When asked about his future after United’s defeat in the Europa League final, Garnacho said: ‘The game has an impact, but the season itself, the club’s situation… I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next.’

Napoli had also held talks to sign Garnacho in the January transfer window as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a €70m (£58.9m) deal.

However, the Serie A champions claimed the deal fell apart as Garnacho’s wage demands were not in line with the rest of their squad.
