Alexander Isak is set to be available for Newcastle United’s Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, while a ‘late call’ will be made over Anthony Gordon’s injury.

Isak has been playing with a groin problem and was brought off early in Newcastle’s wins against Brentford and Leicester City this month.

The Sweden international has been in excellent form this season with 20 goals in the Premier League so far, and Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall expects the striker to be ready for United’s visit to St James’ Park this weekend.

‘He’s trained the last couple days,’ Tindall said.

‘He’s trained, and he feels fine. It’s something that we’ll assess day by day, but we’re expecting him to hopefully be available for the weekend.

‘Beyond that, we’re not really looking ahead of Man United. Our main focus is the Man United game and making sure we deliver our best performance.

‘What happens after that is the time when we’ll reflect and assess each individual player. We’ll make a call after that game going into the Crystal Palace game.’

Gordon, meanwhile, suffered a hip injury after coming on as a substitute in England’s 2-0 win against Albania during the international break.

The winger has not featured in Newcastle’s last four games but Tindall says the 24-year-old could make the matchday squad for the game against United.

‘He’s had a decent week with the physios,’ Tindall said.

‘He was back on the grass for a pitch session yesterday. We’ll assess him again today to see how he’s responded to that session, then we’ll have to make a late call over the weekend to see how he is for Sunday.’
