‘All-Pro’ Buzz Already Surging Around Raiders’ Newest Weapon

Every year, analysts and fans search for breakout stars who could rise from an unknown to a household name. And every so often, a rookie shatters expectations, making an instant impact. This season, CBS Sports has pinpointed one such name: rookie running back Ashton Jeanty of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Boise State standout has been named their top All-Pro candidate among all running backs. If that prediction proves true, Jeanty could soon join an elite group of backs who’ve earned All-Pro honors.

For a Las Vegas offense in transition and short on proven playmakers, Jeanty may be the spark plug needed to revitalize the team’s firepower.

Ashton Jeanty: The Raiders’ Surprise All-Pro Candidate

CBS Sports analyzed the past six years of All-Pro running backs and found a consistent prototype among the elite: size, burst, versatility, and early draft investment. From Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry to Josh Jacobs and Jonathan Taylor, All-Pros are often hyper-productive in college, combine explosiveness with efficiency, and step into significant roles early in their NFL careers.

And Jeanty fits that mold according to CBS Sports, who “is capable of making an impact in both the run and pass game.”

CBS Sports also identified a consistent workload among All-Pros, noting they averaged 578.5 carries at the Division I level. While Jeanty didn’t quite match that workload, his 750 carries over a three-year span resulted in 4,769 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns, with a 6.1 yards-per-carry average over that span. If anything, having a lighter workload could work in his favor. He’s entering the NFL with fresh legs and a prime position to increase his workload with the Raiders.

Raiders’ Offensive Landscape Could Accelerate Jeanty’s Rise

The Raiders’ offensive situation may not be ideal for most rookies, but for Jeanty, it’s a blessing in disguise. Without established superstars commanding touches, the door is wide open for him to earn high-volume snaps early. His competition in the backfield is limited, and the scheme is likely to evolve with new play-callers who emphasize flexibility and pace, the two traits that play directly into Jeanty’s skillset.

History supports the notion of early success at the running back position. Unlike most NFL roles, running backs can contribute immediately due to their lower learning curve than most positions. From Ezekiel Elliot to Saquon Barkley to Bijan Robinson, rookie running backs of recent years have routinely posted All-Pro caliber seasons. Jeanty could be next in line, especially if the Raiders feed him the ball early and often.

CBS Sports’ projection may seem bold, but it’s not without merit. The blueprint is there: Jeanty checks all the athletic boxes, enters a situation with opportunity, and plays a position that allows young players to thrive early. If he stays healthy and adjusts quickly to the pro game, an All-Pro nod could be within reach sooner than most expect.
