Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update After Lions WR Goes Down on Thanksgiving

The Detroit Lions may have suffered a major blow as star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was hurt during the team’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions receiver was hurt on a first-quarter run from Jahmyr Gibbs, having his leg rolled from behind. He remained on the turf in pain and was taken back to the locker room.

Reporter Nolan Bianchi noted that St. Brown was able to leave the field under his own power, though was clearly hurt from the play.

“Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is being attended to on the field after that run by Gibbs,” Bianchi shared in a post on X. “Looks like he got rolled up on while engaged as a blocker. He’s walking off by himself, but with a noticeable limp.”

Lions Make Announcement on Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Status

The Lions announced that St. Brown was questionable to return, with Fox reporting that he was “popping his head out” of the locker room while being evaluated by trainers, suffering the potential for a return.

It was not immediately clear how long the Lions may have lost St. Brown, but any extended absence could be costly to the team’s playoff hopes. The Lions entered Thursday’s game just behind the Packers for the lead in the NFC North, having gone 3-3 in their last six games after starting out 4-1.

Doctor and sports injury analyst Jeff Mueller wrote on X that the extent of the injury was not immediately clear from the initial replay, but there was the potential for St. Brown to return.

“Left foot/ankle was in a spot where there’d be concern of a high ankle as the OL rolled up on him,” Mueller wrote. “Could also be knee or back, but seems more lower extremity. We’ll see if he’s able to return but immediate visit to the locker room isn’t a great sign.”

St. Brown is coming off a monster game in the team’s overtime win over the New York Giants, making nine receptions for 149 yards with a touchdown. He has 75 receptions for 884 yards with nine touchdowns this season, returning to a Pro Bowl pace.

Lions Already Shorthanded Going into Thursday

The Lions already lost one of their top pass-catchers going into Thursday’s game, with star tight end Sam LaPorta suffering a season-ending back injury. The Lions announced before the game that No. 3 receiver and punt and kickoff returner Kalif Raymond was inactive while nursing an ankle injury he suffered in last week’s win over the New York Giants.

The team also announced that their backup tight end would miss the game after suffering a neck injury.

“Tight end Brock Wright, who was filling in for the injured Sam LaPorta as Detroit’s No. 1 tight end, is inactive today with a neck injury,” Twentyman wrote. “Down their top two tight ends for today’s contest against the Packers, Detroit will turn to Ross Dwelley, Anthony Firkser and Zach Horton at the position.”

The Lions did call on some help, signing veteran receiver Tom Kennedy to the active roster from the practice squad.
