Analyst Calls Jets vs Browns ‘As Close To An XFL Game You’ll See’

The New York Jets called off the dogs yesterday in a full blown fire sale that did all of two things. First, it confirmed that head coach Aaron Glenn, barring something completely and utterly cataclysmic, will be at the helm next season. And secondly, it confirmed that the Jets are not committed to winning in 2025.

As such, the football games going forward will not be for the faint of heart. This might be the case this Sunday when the 2-6 Cleveland Browns come to town for a shutdown in the Meadowlands.

When asked about the outlook on “his” Cleveland Browns, NBC analyst John Fanta did not hold back on the state of these two organizations.

“I am heading to MetLife on Sunday, I am going to this game,” Fanta said on Pardon My Take. “Fun family Sunday, could go to a farm… or a pumpkin patch. No, let’s go an watch these two go up against each other- Aaron Glenn and Kevin Stefansky.”

“Literally, now- with what the Jets did at the trade deadline- this is probably as close to like an XFL game that you are going to probably see in the National Football League.”

The two AFC teams, whose combined record sits at 3-13, each had a bye week to prepare for the other. The Jets are coming off an improbable come back win over the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago. While the Browns are reeling from a blowout loss on the road in New England that came just seven days after their 31-6 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Browns vs Jets Is A Statistical Anomaly

At this point in the season, you might as well have fun with it. This is a game that the Jets’ coaching staff and front office would love to come out on top in. But comparing which team might have the statistical edge is nearly impossible.

On one hand, the Cleveland Browns are the worst team on the road in the NFL. They rank 32 of 32 in power rating in road games this year, being outscored by a combined total of 81 points in the four road spots (more than 20 points a game).

Okay, nice, found the edge. I wonder who is the worst team at home.

The New York Jets.

The Jets have only played three real home games this season, a loss to the Bills, a loss to the Cowboys, and the infamous 13-6 loss to the Panthers.

Somethings got to give in the matchup of 32 vs 32.

Signs Point Towards Low Scoring Affair

The Jets defense hasn’t been particularly good this year. Even before shipping off its two best players, the defense was allowing 335 yards and four touchdowns a game.

But the offense has been the Achilles heel. This does not bode well for New York considering that the largely offense-less Browns rely on their defense to keep them in games.

Yardage wise, the Browns are second in the NFL in allowing the fewest total yards per game. They have not allowed a 100 yard rusher on the year, they held the great Derrick Henry to just 23 yards in Week 2.

Conversely, the Browns offense is one of the worst in the league as well. They are hardly scoring more than 15 points a game, they gain the second fewest yards, they have the least total points scored on the season.

Signs are pointing to another low scoring game in East Rutherford.
