NFL analyst Tony Rizzo isn’t a fan of Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett after his recent comments.
The Browns suffered a 23-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in Week 6. Following the loss, Garrett said he was tired of losing, but Rizzo believes plenty of blame goes on him, as he isn’t the leader many believe he is.
I don’t feel sorry for Myles Garrett. Stop with this crap. He’s not a leader. He’s a hired gun, here for money, and he wanted to leave your city and team, end of story. Am I wrong?,” Rizzo said on ESPN Cleveland. “The ass kissing of this guy is insane.”
Rizzo thinks Garrett isn’t a true leader and is only in Cleveland because they gave him the most money, and not because he wants to be.
It’s a bold comment from the analyst, as Garrett is a star player for the Browns and one of the top defensive players in the NFL. But, Rizzo doesn’t think Garrett is the one to help turn Cleveland’s franchise around, as it showed with his lackluster effort against the Steelers in Week 6.
Garrett failed to record a tackle against the Steelers.
Garrett Frustrated With Browns’ Loss
Following Cleveland’s blowout loss to the Steelers on Sunday, Garrett was frustrated with the loss.
It was another lackluster effort from the Browns, and Garrett vented his frustration following the loss.
“It’s frustrating,” a visibly upset Garrett said after the loss. “To lose the same way every time is frustrating as hell.”
After his comment, Garrett was asked if it’s harder to get up to play, and he had a one-word comment.
“Yeah,” Garrett said.
Those comments are why Rizzo was so mad at Garrett and claimed he’s not a leader, despite him being paid to do so.
Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Garrett Requested a Trade From Cleveland
Another reason why Rizzo is critical of Garrett is due to the fact that he requested a trade in the offseason.
Garrett claimed he wanted to play for a winner, and he didn’t feel like the Browns were close to competing.
“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote in his public trade demand posted on social media in February. “While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”
Ultimately, the Browns gave Garrett a massive contract extension to keep him in Cleveland, which ended his trade request.
Kevin Stefanski Has a Short Message on the Latest Loss
After Cleveland was blown out by the Steelers in Week 6, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski had a short message on the defeat.
Stefanski believes the team is making too many unforced errors, which is why they are losing.
“Can’t do it on the road versus a good football team,” Stefanski said postgame. “We’ve got to get it fixed. Before we start winning, you’ve got to stop losing. And, we are doing some things right now that are preventing us from winning.”
The Browns will look to snap their losing streak on Sunday at home against the Miami Dolphins.
