Viktor Gyokeres has now emerged as a top transfer target for Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Portugal.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both discussed a move for the Sporting CP sensation, who is set to leave the club this summer for a fee of around £58million.

Gyokeres scored 52 goals in 54 appearances last season, emerging as one of the top striker targets in Europe.

Manchester United are also admirers but a lack of Champions League football on offer at Old Trafford next season could derail their hopes of signing the Sweden international.

Arsenal have been exploring a move for the 26-year-old for a number of months but are also weighing up a move for Benjamin Sesko.

Arteta is a huge admirer of the RB Leipzig star with Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta believed to have favoured a move for Gyokeres.

Berta took up his post at Arsenal earlier this year after 12 years at Atletico but his former employers could now pose the biggest risk to Arsenal landing the striker.

The future of Julian Alvarez at Atletico appears uncertain with Liverpool and Chelsea among the clubs credited with interest in the Argentina international, who left Manchester City last summer.

With the futures of Angel Correra and Alexander Sorloth named as two other players who could move on, Record claim Atletico will attempt to sign Gyokeres in the coming weeks.

While the Premier League initially appeared to be Gyokeres’ preferred destination, Atletico’s interest could prove tempting with Serie A champions Napoli also thought to be weighing up a move.

While Atletico are keen to sign him, former Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder believes a move to Real Madrid could be the ‘perfect match’ for the Swede.

‘You have to pick a team which works for your playing style,’ Sneijder told Metro.

‘At the moment, maybe Real [should consider signing him]. If it allows Kylian Mbappe to move back to the left then maybe it’s a perfect match.’
