Tottenham fans have been left sweating on the fitness of Son Heung-min after he missed Sunday’s Premier League clash at Wolves.

The Spurs skipper was nowhere to be seen when the team arrived at Molineux – just days before the huge Europa League game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Following a 1-1 draw in north London, Tottenham must get a win in Germany if they are to make the semi-finals of the competition.

Winning the Europa League is the club’s only chance of ending their 17-year trophy drought and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Though he has struggled this season, the absence of Son, as well as fellow forward Wilson Odobert, from the squad to face Wolves is a massive concern.

Ange Posteoglou has confirmed why the pair have missed the Premier League clash and shared an update on the availability for Thursday night.

‘Sonny got a knock on his foot so, we’re just being a bit cautious with him,’ the Spurs manager said ahead of kick-off.

Why was Matheus Cunha was benched for Wolves vs Tottenham?

As for Wolves, some were surprised to see Matheus Cunha only on the bench in his first game since returning from suspension.

The forward has been heavily linked with a summer transfer, with Manchester United recently joining Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for the Brazilian.

There has been tension between Cunha, who has a £62.5million release clause, and Wolves fans, with the player recently stating in a deleted social media post: ‘Time to be happy. I will follow my dreams, not yours. So stay cool.’

But speaking ahead of the Tottenham game, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira said he planned to stick to the same line-up that he’s used for the last five games, leaving no room for Cunha.

‘Of course, he understands. He is committed to helping because he will have a chance to go and add his quality to the team,’ the head coach said.

‘We won the last three games playing consistently, tactically and mentally. What is fair? Fair is to keep going with the same team.

‘This is my opinion and this is football. This is commitment, and this is leadership.

‘Matheus will come to help us. He understands because I have had a conversation with him, but I will play with the same team.’
