Anthony Edwards Sends ‘3 Year’ Warning, Makes Bold Vikings’ Claim

The Minnesota Timberwolves have made the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons. They have been unable to punch a ticket to their first Finals appearance in franchise history.

On the back of Anthony Edwards, it seems to be only a matter of time. The five-year veteran is quickly becoming one of the best players in the world and the face of the NBA, although he’s tired of falling short.

Picked first overall in 2020, there were concerns that he was not totally devoted to basketball. As he broke out as a star, it became clear that those concerns were totally off-base, although that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy having fun.

Edwards has dominated on the court, and he thinks he could take the leap onto the gridiron.

Anthony Edwards Sets NBA Timeline

This offseason, the Western Conference got even more formidable, and the Wolves lost Nickeil Alexander-Walker in free agency.

However, Edwards still thinks he and the Timberwolves can win a title in the next three years. If they don’t, he joked that he would just swap sports and play in the NFL.

“You said we’ve got three more years for you to win a ring before you go to the league,” said Nice Kicks’ Dezmond Moore during a September 29th interview.

In Edwards’ mind, the Minnesota Vikings could use some help on the offensive side of the ball.

Hopefully, I can play for Minnesota, I ain’t got to move nowhere,” bantered Edwards before revealing he would want to play wide receiver opposite to Justin Jefferson.

Edwards was a standout youth football player, although he committed to basketball fully before high school.

Edwards Outlined Wolves’ Expectations

Edwards is easily the best player on the Timberwolves, and the roster surrounding him isn’t getting any younger. Key stars Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, and Julius Randle are all older than 30. Youngsters Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr., it seems, are not ready to make the leap.

Barring a blockbuster trade or free agency signing, the Wolves’ window is open now, and it’s up to Edward’s leadership to guide them to the Finals.

Of course, the West boasts the Denver Nuggets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers. Add in young teams on the rise like the San Antonio Spurs, and even making it back to the Conference Finals would be a success.

Edwards is one of the best athletes in the NBA, but his making the jump to the NFL was a jest. Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson excelled at both football and baseball, but the only player to play in both the NBA and NFL is Vikings legend Bud Grant.

Grant played in two seasons for the Minneapolis Lakers, winning the title in 1950, and played two seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles. We would go on to coach the Vikings for 18 seasons.
